Where to buy a domain

The domain is the address

The domain is the address people type to find the site (e.g. `mayasbakery.com`). The client should always own it โ€” not you.

Recommended registrars

  • Namecheapbeginners, clean UI, no upsell pressure. ~$10โ€“$14/yr.
  • Cloudflare Registrardevelopers, at-cost pricing, no markup. ~$8โ€“$10/yr.
  • Squarespace Domains (formerly Google Domains) โ€” simple, Google Workspace integration. ~$12/yr.
  • GoDaddywidely known, fine if the client already uses it. ~$12โ€“$20/yr.

Rules to follow

  • The client should own the domain in their own account โ€” not yours
  • Always enable auto-renew so it doesn't accidentally expire
  • Use the client's personal email as the account owner, not your own
  • `.com` is still the standard. Only go with `.co`, `.io`, or `.net` if `.com` isn't available and the brand justifies it
